• Extremely limited production; the 12th of just 99 produced with coachwork by Zagato
• Only 2,000 miles from new; very well-maintained and serviced
• Outstanding colors; desirable six-speed manual gearbox
• Retains original owner's manuals, umbrellas, numbered car cover

6.0L all-alloy DOHC V-12 engine, electronic fuel injection, 435 HP at 5,000 RPM, six-speed manual gearbox, independent front and rear suspension with double wishbones, coil springs, and anti-roll bars, four-wheel hydraulic ventilated disc brakes with four-piston calipers; wheelbase: 2,591 mm (102”)

Recalling the iconic DB4 GT Zagato of the early 1960s and the high-style V8 Vantage Zagato of the late 1980s, which occupied the pinnacle of the Aston Martin model range in their respective eras, a new collaboration with famed Italian coachbuilder Zagato in 2002 brought the daring, DB7-based DB7 Zagato and then the open DB AR1. Limited-production, elite-level Grand Touring cars, the DB7 Zagato coupe and DB AR1 Zagato rank among marque enthusiasts as the most attractive Aston Martin models ever produced. Although the DB7 Zagato coupe was only available in Europe and Asia, the glamorous open-air DB AR1 was produced especially for the American market, hence the "AR1" designation.

First shown at the prestigious Los Angeles Auto Show held during January 2002, the DB AR1 was an electrifying, fully open roadster with design influenced by Henrik Fisker. Blending iconic design cues with decidedly modern flair, the DB AR1 was a hit at the Los Angeles Auto Show, attracting sufficient orders there to justify production. The DB AR1 went on to star in a “Power, Beauty, and Soul” tour of 13 North American cities in seven weeks between May and June 2003, resulting in the sale of all 99 of these stunning roadsters sold – 91 in the United States, and 8 sold to Europe.

A true roadster with no form of roof – or provision for one – whatsoever, the DB AR1 was tailor-made for America’s most favorable climates. It also marked the last collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato until the V12 Zagato was unveiled in 2011. The sleek bodyshell of the DB AR1 was hand-built in Italy by Zagato and formed for the most part of lightweight aluminum. Twin humps directly behind the seats of the DB AR1 echoed the “double bubble” roof treatment of the coupe and of the many daring competition coupes designed and built by Zagato since the 1950s.

Powered by the uprated and more-powerful 'GT' variant of the DOHC, 48-valve 6.0-litre Vanquish V-12 with 435 HP on tap, the DB AR1 is further equipped with a special active sports exhaust system with rear-muffler bypass valves endowing the Aston with a distinctive and invigorating exhaust note expected of such a rare special-edition automobile. Other DB AR1 features include the DB7 GT quick-shift gear lever, AP Racing clutch, and special multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels mounting low-profile, high-performance tires for excellent road holding to match the vehicle’s impressive forward thrust. A five-speed automatic gearbox was also available. Upgraded braking is supplied by race-bred Brembo ventilated disc brakes all around, including four-piston calipers and a V12 Vanquish brake booster unit delivering progressive braking with firmer and more consistent pedal feel. As anticipated, the DB AR1 delivered ‘Supercar’ performance with acceleration from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and a massive 186 mph top-end charge, figures only slightly bettered by the legendary Vanquish.

This wonderful example is the 12th of just 99 Zagato roadsters built. It has seen approximately 2,000 original miles with just two prior owners from new. Presented in iconic Aston Martin Racing Green with light tan leather piped dark tan and complemented by brown carpeting edged in matching light tan, this DB AR1 benefits from exceptional care remains virtually new in all respects. Included are the original owner's manuals, umbrellas, and numbered car cover. Given that there were only 99 produced, examples of the Zagato DB AR1 are rarely offered for sale and as such, this stellar DB AR1 must be part of any serious Aston Martin or sporting car collection.
