Through its long history BMW has always been involved in motorsports. In fact, the Motorsport division of BMW has fielded entries in such venues as motorcycle racing, Formula One, and sports and touring car racing. All this development work on the track has also led BMW to build some of the finest road cars in the world. One of their first was the famous BMW 507 roadster that was built from 1956-1959. The 507 was the ultimate in a German roadster, but with a sale price of $10,500 it found very few buyers and just 252 were built. In the 1990s, BMW decided to honor the legacy of this gorgeous car and began development of the Z8. A concept with the codename ‘Z07’ made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Show and the resulting Z8 entered production in 2000. Selling at $128,000, the Z8 was a special car that was aimed for a few select clients who wanted the absolute best in a world class roadster.

Offered here is a superb example of this iconic roadster that has had only two owners since new and today shows just 7,858 miles. This Z8 has received the utmost care since new and is used only in perfect weather. When not in use, it remains under cover in a temperature-controlled environment. It has also been regularly serviced and received a new battery and new Michelin tires last year. Finished in BMW’s Titanium Silver Metallic, this roadster presents today just as it did when it left the factory in 2002 and represents a level of preservation that is seldom seen in a car. Further, this Z8 has received no modifications and is in authentic condition as built by BMW. The brilliant design of the Z8 pays homage to the legendary 507 with many styling cues. The wide oval grilles are almost identical, the smooth tapering at the front end and the side grilles all share similar styling attributes. Even the Z8’s wheelbase at 98.5 inches is within an inch of that of the 507. At the rear, both cars carry an aerodynamic design that cheats the wind at any speed. Modern innovation is found the Z8’s use of neon exterior lighting with tail lights and turn indicators powered by neon tubes that are expected to last for the life of the vehicle. The interior of this Z8 is flawless in fine black leather. BMW spared no expense in the cockpit design of this great roadster with a clean and uncluttered look that was accomplished by integrating a number of functions into just a few multifunction controls. This results in the power windows and mirrors being controlled by a single switch while a center-mounted instrument cluster is angled toward the driver for gauge monitoring at a glance. The upholstery, carpets, door panels, and dashboard look like new on this Z8 with no flaws. Power for this roadster comes from its 4.9-litre V-8 rated at 394 horsepower. This dual overhead cam V-8 engine uses 32 valves and is a marvel of the high-precision engineering for which BMW is known. The engine compartment is clean with all components exactly as they were when they left the factory. The power of this engine is literally a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” and is reliably fast as only a BMW could be. Indeed, the Z8 is the very pinnacle of BMW’s stellar engineering and opulent styling. This Z8 has been a California car its whole life and comes with its factory hard top.

The BMW Z8 is car that achieved iconic status the minute it rolled off the assembly line. It’s exclusive status and lofty price tag ensured that is was a special car when new and is even more so now. This example has very few equals, as it’s a low mileage car that has been expertly cared for and maintained without regard to expense. For the very finest in the BMW driving experience, this Z8 is a beautifully presented car that is ready to offer many more miles of grand touring.
