Cushman began producing motor scooters in the mid-1930s and would go on to supply the American military effort during the Second World War. Its most lasting contribution to the American motorcycle industry, however, was the Eagle, which resembled a full-grown motorcycle and was lauded for its great styling, ample equipment, remarkable fuel economy, and ease of operation. The ultimate expression was the Silver Eagle. While Cushman Eagles are typically praised for their riding ease, a great part of their tremendous sales success – over 16 years of production – is due to their attractive cruiser-like styling and many accessories. By avoiding a traditional step-through design and opting for a motorcycle-like setup with a top-mounted fuel tank, the Eagle continues to attract buyers, collectors, and enthusiasts of all ages today.

This Cushman Model 765-879707 Silver Eagle is a wonderful and highly equipped example with twin mirrors, saddle bags, a speedometer, headlight, and handlebar tassels for a great look. Offered from The Jimmie Taylor Collection, this Cushman Silver Eagle epitomizes one of the most popular and stylish “small-bore” American motorcycles of the postwar era before the onslaught of imports from Japanese manufacturers. Combining motorcycle looks with scooter-type efficiency and packaging, it marks one of Cushman’s best-selling models.
