The coveted first place finish at Le Mans has proved elusive to many of the world’s greatest car builders. Bentley set the mark rather early with four consecutive wins from 1927-1930. Many others laid claim to victory at the Mulsanne Straight but, when Ford went in search of bragging rights in the 1960s, they did so with gusto. So successful was their GT40 program that they actually managed to match Bentley’s record with four straight wins from 1966-1969. The GT40 went on to become a legend and it was only natural that Ford decided to honor the memory of this incredible car with a modern and updated version that could be driven on both the track and the open road. In 2005, a new Ford GT hit the streets with a price tag of $139,995. Demand was intense and many sold for well over the MSRP. Indeed, even getting one was hard with wait times running into months. Some years later, values for the Ford GT have increased significantly with no end in sight. Quite simply, the Ford GT was a hit when built and demand has never diminished with original examples setting a new benchmark every time one crosses the block.
Offered here is an excellent and original low mileage example of this most iconic car. This GT is one of only 238 that were finished in beautiful classic black, a color that nicely accents the great lines of a car like this. Actual proportions for the tribute GT were taller, wider, and longer than the original GT40 that inspired it, but the look and profile are unmistakable. This GT is a one-owner car with a clean Carfax and has never been abused. It also comes complete with full documentation including a manufacturer's statement of origin, window sticker, Ford sales contract, all hang tags, books, all correspondence relating to the car from Ford, and three sets of keys and, in a most unusual touch, this GT is a factory stripe delete car. This Ford GT carries two options with a McIntosh sound system and forged alloy wheels that complement its beautiful profile. Other amenities include its factory car cover, battery tender, and factory seat covers that have been on the car since new. The interior is finished in matching black with brushed stainless steel accents that make for a most pleasing driver experience. At the heart of this race-bred machine is its incredible 5.4 liter hand-built V-8 that is a work of art. This all-aluminum engine features a Lysholm twin screw supercharger with Mustang SVT Cobra R cylinder heads. This masterpiece allows this engine to develop an astounding 550 horsepower that enables the car to achieve a top speed of 205 miles per hour. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed transmission.
This impressive example is a modern muscle car that is not only powerful, but also offers the comfort of the traditional Grand Touring car. The Ford GT has taken its place among the elite supercars. With only one owner from new and very low mileage, this particular car is certainly one of the best in the modern supercar era.
