200.5 cid L-head inline four-cylinder engine, 40 HP at 2,200 RPM, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle with transverse leaf spring, ¾-floating rear axle with transverse leaf spring, four-wheel mechanical drum brakes; wheelbase: 103.5"

Introduced in 1927, the Model A was a massive success, vaulting Ford past archrival Chevrolet in 1929 for sales leadership in America’s feverish popular-price car market. For 1930, a gentle restyling delivered a bolder overall with a lower center of gravity. The hood and radiator were raised, with the radiator shell now constructed from stainless steel. Wheel size was reduced to 19 inches, lowering the car in both visual and actual terms, while new wider tires enhanced ride and passenger comfort on longer drives, made possible by a taller cowl allowing the use of a new higher-capacity fuel tank. The open Roadster and Phaeton models gained fold-down windshields and Deluxe and Standard Roadsters were now further differentiated by different rooflines, with the Standard models having both a taller windshield and higher-profile top.

While the worsening Great Depression caused a drastic fall in automobile production numbers during 1931, the Model A’s final year, Ford continued to make careful and welcome refinements and improvements. Among the updates were several new body styles, a smart new relief-effect radiator shell, and detail changes to the various bodies offered. This handsomely presented 1931 Model A Roadster is a wonderful case in point, benefiting from a high-quality restoration and the care of The Jimmie Taylor Museum Collection. Featuring rich exterior colors and discrete yet effective pin stripe accents on the beltline, this Roadster is highly equipped with period accessories. Starting form the distinctive Quail radiator mascot, they include chrome headlight visors with red dots, dual horns, a chrome grille guard behind a 1931 West Virginia license plate, dual side-mounted spare wheels and tires with hard covers and chrome retaining straps, dual chrome side view mirrors and dual rear view mirrors, dual cowl lamps, wind wings, and a trunk rack, luggage trunk, and dual taillights.

The convertible top is well fitted, accompanied by a top cover, and the jaunty rumble seat is upholstered. The interior is very nice to match, equipped with a rear-view mirror/clock and marble accessory shifter ball. The engine compartment is well-restored, tidy, and nicely presented, with proper components, parts, and finishes throughout. Striking throughout and very well-equipped with desirable accessories, this 1931 Ford Model A truly possesses all the elements required for a wonderful touring experience and marks one of the finest and best-equipped examples we have seen in recent memory.
