• Original 1970 Chevelle Malibu with SS cues added
• Small-block V-8 engine with performance goodies
• Muscular and fun street machine

GM small-block V-8 engine, single Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, three-speed automatic transmission, independent front suspension with unequal-length upper and lower control arms and coil springs, four-link rear suspension with coil springs, power-assisted front disc, rear drum hydraulic brakes; wheelbase: 112"

A huge sales success from introduction for 1964, Chevrolet’s new A-Body intermediate models delivered a rare combination of clean, attractive styling, extensive options, useful passenger space, and sheer value. Capable of accommodating most every available Chevy power plant from economical inline sixes to small-block V-8s and eventually Chevy’s hot Mark IV big-block engine from 1965, the Chevelle offered virtually something for everyone. Immediately modified for drag racing, NASCAR ovals, and clandestine street races, the new mid-size Chevy immediately gained a formidable reputation that continues stronger than ever today.

A major redesign for 1968 brought a sportier new look with a shorter wheelbase and long-hood, short-deck styling with tapered fenders and a rounded beltline. The Chevelle and its upscale Malibu series were available in virtually every conceivable body style, including convertibles, coupes, hardtop coupes, sedans, and station wagons, plus the El Camino pickup. The Chevelle was revised for 1970 with a more sculptured look and four headlights now smoothed-in alongside the grille. This ‘Second Generation” A-Body style continued through 1972 and stands as the most popular today, with surviving examples lending themselves extremely well to modifications and performance and appearance updates, thanks to the Chevelle’s many factory-available options and today’s aftermarket.

Enhanced with added ‘SS’ cues and features, this original Baltimore-built 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu coupe is a muscular ‘80s-‘90s style street machine finished in eye-catching red paint with black Rally stripes over a bench front seat and black cloth-and-vinyl upholstery with black carpeting. Riding on a set of Corvette-style Rally wheels with fat radial tires, the Malibu is equipped with an SS grille and power steering, power brakes with dual-circuit master cylinder, a column-shifted automatic transmission, and standard cowl-type ducted steel hood. Power is delivered by a later-model small-block Chevrolet V-8, equipped with many performance goodies including an Edelbrock manual-choke carburetor and intake manifold, a chrome open-element air cleaner, exhaust headers, an MSD ignition system and distributor, and finned aluminum rocker covers. A brief drive, during cataloguing the car, reveals that it is likely equipped with a stall-type torque converter. Other features include an AM/FM cassette stereo head unit and updated speakers, auxiliary gauges monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, and electrical voltage, plus a Sunpro tachometer mounted on the steering column. Carrying a muscular presence with a great exhaust note, this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is a fun and good-looking street machine with the hard work already done.
