200.5 cid L-head inline four-cylinder engine, 40 HP at 2,200 RPM, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle and ¾-floating rear axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel mechanical drum brakes; wheelbase 103.5”

The introduction of the Ford Model A in late 1927 represents one of the most significant and dramatic business turnarounds of the 20th Century, and quite likely, of all time. While many believed by late 1924 that Henry Ford’s engineering and manufacturing genius had seen better days, Edsel Ford, Henry’s visionary son and Ford Motor Company president, successfully lobbied for development of a replacement for the venerable Model T. Launched in 1927 for 1928, the all-new Model A was more complex, yet much simpler to operate than the beloved old “Tin Lizzie.” A new four-cylinder engine produced twice the T’s power output, while the exterior featured a modern Lincoln-inspired cues.

As expected, the debut of the new Model A was a highly anticipated event, featuring personal comments by none other than Henry Ford in a flurry of pre-launch advertisements and widely circulated media interviews. Early customers included eventual U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as several noted Hollywood stars who posed for photos with their new Model As, clearly enthused by the fresh styling and sprightly performance. Indeed, with the Model A, Ford had perfected the art of effective product placement in one of the most successful new product launches in all automotive history.

Continuing to benefit from a high-quality restoration, this 1929 Ford Model A Roadster from The Jimmie Taylor Collection represents the transition of Ford Motor Company’s automobiles from purely functional and value-rich cars, to handsome, sporty, and even individualistic high-level vehicles. Colors are excellent, with a combination of more conservative body paint with “Jazz Age” flair heightened by the orange wire-spoke wheels. The paint finish displays obvious quality, notwithstanding some surface imperfections. In addition to an upholstered rumble seat – an item often overlooked by lesser restorations, this Model A Roadster’s desirable features and accessories include
nice brightwork and bumpers, a winged Boyce Moto-Meter, wind wings, a fold-out windshield, a rear trunk rack, whitewall tires, and dual side-mounted spare wheels/tires. The purposeful black upholstery is well trimmed and presented, while the dash insert panel containing the speedometer/odometer is of more driver quality, as is the underhood compartment; the engine is correct and complete in appearance. Very well-presented overall, this sporty and highly equipped 1929 Ford Model A Roadster is a wonderful and historic example of Ford Motor Company’s salvation during the late 1920s. Best of all, it is ready to be enjoy.
