CHASSIS NO: 13287017
• Handsome late-production example of the historic Model T
• A true prewar motoring icon, essential to any collection
• Early example with optional electric starting and battery
• Engaging presentation with glossy paint and very nice upholstery

176.7 cid L-head inline four-cylinder engine, electric starting, 20 HP, two-speed planetary manual transmission, solid front axle and live rear axles with transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs, contracting-band driveshaft brake plus hand-operated, internal-expanding mechanical rear-wheel brakes; wheelbase: 100"

For the Model T’s final years, the venerable “Tin Lizzie” was marketed as the “Improved Ford” from about July 1925 and benefited handsomely from the first major restyling since 1917. Among the revisions were new fenders, running boards, bodies, and even an updated chassis design that lowered ride height by one full inch. The Model T coupe and versatile two-door “Tudor” sedan were all new, while maintaining a similar look to those of 1925.

Comprehensive mechanical updates applied to the final Model T series brought greater ease of operation, safety, and a more pleasant driving experience. Chassis updates included a longer rear cross member for improved structural integrity, plus modified springs and front spindles. Other 1926-27 improvements included 11-inch rear brake drums operated by the emergency-brake lever, enlarged pedals for low speed and the foot brake, and a wider internal transmission brake for greater durability.

While Ford had not yet performed annual model-year changeovers, an array of handsome paint colors was now available with the Model T, ranging from Gunmetal Blue or Phoenix Brown for the open cars, to Highland Green, Royal Maroon, Fawn Gray, Moleskin, and Drake Green for the closed models. Fenders and running boards remained clack on all models. Other improvements included Standard 21-inch balloon-type tires, wire wheels – optional from January 1926, the relocation of the gas tank from underneath the driver’s seat to the cowl (all models except for the Fordor sedan), and the return of bright trim. Model T production ended in May 1927; however, Ford continued to support the car with engines produced in small batches for it until August 4, 1941.

This charming 1926 Ford Model T Tudor is a nicely presented example from final production run of 1926-1927. Riding on spoked wooden wheels and accented by a Ford-scripted Moto-Meter, its other desirable features include a steel sun visor, fold-out windshield, rear spare wheel/tire carrier, and a very nicely reupholstered interior with individual front seats. A rear roll-down blind provides privacy as desired. Instruments include an ammeter and Stewart speedometer/odometer with trip odometer. The engine compartment is tidy and, while the engine itself is not detailed, it appears correct and complete. Representing the end of the line of Ford’s Model T, this example from The Jimmie Taylor Collection is an outstanding find with a very attractive overall presentation.
