The legendary Humvee was conceived by A.M. General during the mid-1980s in response to the U.S. military’s requirement for a High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) to replace its aging and varied vehicle fleet for combat and support roles. Also known as the “Hummer,” it quickly earned its stellar reputation in front-line service. While the battle-proven Hummer was lauded by the military, it achieved cult status when legendary bodybuilder, movie icon, and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger became one of the first civilians to own one.
Recognizing a winner, General Motors purchased the “Hummer” name and distribution rights and began selling the barely civilianized Hummer H1 through select dealerships. The more refined Hummer H2 was at once longer, lighter, narrower, and taller than the H1 and built from 2002 to 2009. While already very expensive and extremely well-equipped in showroom form, many H2s were customized and personalized for their wealthy buyers, often including professional sports stars and entertainment icons of the 2000s. Some were also used as promotional vehicles, customized to showcase aftermarket products at trade shows and high-profile public events.
Built for display at the 2004 SEMA show, this spectacular 2003 Hummer H2 was customized at a cost exceeding $65,000 and features a multitude of custom touches ranging from the lift kit to the many one-off upgrades. Performance was also enhanced over the Hummer’s already high factory specifications with the powerful GM 6.0-liter V-8 engine fitted with a Magnuson MagnaCharger and free-flowing induction system. Ready to go anywhere and look great while doing it, this H2 features a swashbuckling skull-and-crossbones motif and rhinestone-laden emblems inside and out plus a custom grille guard, roof racks, running boards, and bank of powerful driving lights blended into the hood. The custom suede-trimmed interior is simply amazing, featuring a cutting-edge audio and entertainment system including nine TV monitors – one mounted in-dash – that simply must be experienced first-hand to be believed. Other features include navigation, carbon-fiber interior trim and, as expected, power amenities and dual-zone climate control. Although now out of production, the popularity of Hummers – and the H2 in particular – has yet to diminish. It is unlikely that one would again find a Hummer with this combination of custom features and as offered from the Monical Collection, this stunning 2003 Hummer H2 will continue to be a pleasure to own and drive while creating a fun and lasting impression everywhere it goes.
