212 cid L-head inline four-cylinder engine, 35 HP at 2,000 RPM, three-speed selective sliding transmission, solid front and semi-floating rear axles with semi-elliptic leaf springs, two-wheel mechanical brakes; wheelbase: 116”

Having made a fortune supplying engines, transmissions, and other mechanical components to Ransom E. Olds and then Ford, the Dodge Brothers of Detroit astutely recognized Henry Ford’s drive to self-sufficiency and moved into production of their own automobile line by 1914. High-quality, reliable, and well-proven, Dodge Brothers automobiles were only carefully updated as necessary until 1924, when they received their first comprehensive set of changes. Among the revisions were stylistic updates including a taller radiator and raised hood line, with vertical cooling louvers added to the hood sides. Drum-style headlamps completed the bolder frontal presence. The wheelbase length of the chassis shared by both the Standard and Custom models was increased by two inches for better proportions and passenger comfort, which was in turn heightened with a change from the former three-quarter-elliptic springs to semi-elliptic units.

Drivers and passengers also benefited from significant ergonomic updates including lowered seats and forward repositioning of both the gear shift and brake levers yielding improved leg room. A rear brake light was a new and welcome standard feature across the board. Reflecting the growing affluence of the 1920s, the new Dodge Brothers Special models debuted at the New York Automobile Show, featuring distinctive upgrades including nickel-plated radiator shells, bumpers, and windshield wipers, a prominent moto-meter style radiator caps, and bright metal step plates atop the running boards.

Another highly collectible offering from The Jimmie Taylor Collection, this 1924 Dodge Brothers Touring displays an AACA National First Prize badge from 1970. Finished in dark blue over black pleated upholstery and equipped with a well fitted folding top, it rides on nicely finished wooden spoke wheels with demountable rims. Whitewall tires provide an eye-catching contrast to the characteristically dark color combination of the era. It is a striking example, equipped with a number of upscale special features including bright bumpers, the more elaborate radiator moto-meter, and step plates for the running boards. The engine bay and robust 35-horsepower engine are driver quality and appear correct and complete, as does the dash, which contains correct Dodge Brothers-scripted instruments including an ammeter, oil pressure gauge, and speedometer/odometer with trip meter. A handsome example of one of the most-respected automobile lines of the 1920s, this 1924 Dodge Brothers Touring will provide a great classic touring experience with plenty of room for your friends and family to share the ride.
