CHASSIS NO: 21AC66926
• First-year model with Chevrolet’s legendary ‘Stovebolt’ Six
• Handsome close-coupled Imperial Sedan body style
• Nicely presented, well-equipped example of Chevy’s challenge to Ford

194 cid OHV inline six-cylinder engine, single-barrel Carter carburetor, 46 HP at 2,600 RPM, three-speed manual transmission, solid front and live rear axles with semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel mechanical brakes; wheelbase: 107”

As the soon-to-be legendary, yet short-lived prosperity of the “Roaring Twenties” replaced the challenges of the immediate post-WW I years, General Motors’ Chevrolet Division shifted its focus away from direct competition with Ford’s lower-priced but rudimentary Model T and moved upmarket with more sophisticated new models. The strategy worked and, for 1929, Chevrolet introduced its new model range powered by the equally new 194 cid six-cylinder engine. Advertised as “A Six for the price of a Four'” delivering more than twice the horsepower of Henry’s antiquated but long-running four-cylinder engine, this advanced and extremely durable overhead-valve engine design went on to become a Chevrolet mainstay for many years to come with an endearing ‘Stovebolt’ moniker.

In addition to their rock-solid engineering and durability, Chevrolets of the late 1920s featured fresh and attractive bodies, the inspired products of legendary GM designer Harley Earl and his highly successful Art and Colour Section. The new-for-1929 Chevrolets were introduced in December 1928 and heralded a number of technical advancements including the new engine and a “Banjo” type rear axle plus a rubber-covered, 17-inch steering wheel. Dubbed ‘International’ for 1929’s AC-Series models, the new Chevrolets were a massive hit with buyers. Under the able management of Detroit auto-industry legend W.S. Knudsen, total Chevrolet production reached 1,328,605 units including almost 74,000 cars built in Canada for 1929.

Offered from The Jimmie Taylor Collection, this upscale 1929 Chevrolet AC International Five-Passenger Imperial Sedan is a rather rare vehicle in today’s collector car market, despite its remarkable success with buyers of the era. Powered by the advanced overhead-valve Chevrolet engine mated to a three-speed transmission, this 1929 AC International features a nice exterior finish, in keeping with the dozens of other pre-WW II classics populating Mr. Taylor's well known and highly respected classic car collection. The cloth interior is highly presentable and commensurate with the overall appearance of the car and it appears original; if not, it was certainly re-trimmed at some point with clear attention paid to quality and detail. A rear passenger grab-bar and ash tray are mounted to the front seat back. Other interesting features include Chevrolet “Twilite” scripted headlamp lenses, pin stripe body accents, body-color solid disc-type steel wheels, a covered rear spare, tail lamp, “biplane bumpers,” and even a period AAA badge. If you are looking for a fun and enjoyable prewar classic car, this delightful 1929 Chevrolet is just the ticket.
