Series 314-A. 314 cid L-head V-8 engine, 87 HP at 3,000 RPM, three-speed selective sliding gear manual transmission, solid front axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, full-floating rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel mechanical drum brakes; wheelbase: 132”

For 1927, Cadillac offered an immense selection of 50 body styles and 500 advertised color combinations. With 18 Fisher bodies offered along the Special and Custom lines and a bewildering array of 32 more body styles from outside suppliers, including 18 from Fleetwood alone, Cadillac offered a model suited to virtually any customer requirement. Introduced during August 1926, the Cadillac line for 1927 was particularly successful, with 36,369 examples of the Model 314-A line sold.

Carefully refined, the 1927 Cadillac models featured newly simplified body construction, updated radiator shells, and new Cadillac medallions. Both the battery and tool box were relocated from their previously separate locations to storage compartments just above the running boards, and the larger and more attractive Custom-type headlamps were now part of the Standard line. Myriad other improvements applied to the robust chassis and smooth Cadillac V-8 engine delivered greater reliability and durability. Inside, a new dashboard featured walnut veneer embossed with beautiful German silver inlays using a patented process, and new push/pull switches were now utilized.

Featuring a handsome Style 6970 Two-door Brougham body by Fisher, this 1927 Cadillac offered from The Jimmie Taylor Collection is a very nicely preserved example of Cadillac quality and leadership during the “Roaring Twenties.” The exterior paint is either original or an old refinish that remains quite attractive, in concert with a black padded roof and fenders, a rear luggage trunk, rear-mounted covered spare, and wood-spoked wheels, plus a very nicely chromed radiator shell, Moto-Meter, and steel sun visor. The interior features individual front seats and is very well-presented to match, with cloth upholstery appearing original or a well-executed restoration. The silver-inlaid walnut instrument panel remains highly attractive with few imperfections. As expected, the rear passenger compartment is quite luxurious with roll-down rear windows, fabric blinds, woven grab handles, and a bar-style footrest. The wooden trim and window garnishes are similarly attractive. Additional ventilation is available with the unique windshield, which can be lowered and raised. Other highlights include leather leaf-spring gaiters, a “Milwaukee Tour Club” badge, a jack, roadside, and miscellaneous tools, and a damaged but original-appearing Cadillac operating manual. Represented by this stylish and well-presented example, the 1927 Series 314-A models demonstrated Cadillac’s growing leadership of America’s luxury-car market during the late 1920s and provided a sound basis for the GM Division’s dominance of the market still to come in the 1930s.
